![]() ![]() It was these beaches that bore the brunt of the massive waves, which probably struck the west coast (left side) within an hour of the undersea earthquake. Devastation was particularly severe in Patong and Karon Beaches, where luxury hotels and Western business chains were located to serve the tourists. Along the Andaman Sea Coast of Thailand, more than 4,300 people were confirmed dead in the disaster as of December 30, 2004, and thousands more who were missing may be dead as well. |
