This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from May 18, 2002, shows Italy (boot-shaped country in the center) extending out into the Adriatic Sea (east) and the Tyrrhenian Sea (west). At the southwest tip of Italy is the island of Sicily. At Italy's northern border with Switzerland and Austria are the snow-covered Alps. One of the most famous parts of Italy is the province of Tuscany, with Florence as its capital. If you want to have a look at the city of Pisa and its leaning tower, click the photo at the left. |
